Hi Mr. Hicks, I am a graduate student at NYU, and am also in Lee Caggiano's Fluency Disorders class, like some of the other students who have posted notes regarding your article. I read your article because I remembered Professor Caggiano mentioning your name during class. I found it so inspirational and remarkable what you've accomplished! It's truly unbelievable that your whole life has been transformed by what seems to be an accident! (or at least an unprecedented turn of events!) What you've achieved at Toastmasters is so wonderful. To be able to give people something to relate to is probably one of the best gifts you can give to someone who is struggling. What I really found inspirational is that you are now at a point where you are able to realize the gift that your stuttering has given you, and had spent so much of your life previously trying to escape from it. I chose to pursue this line of study so that I will be able to help people not to hide from life. This is exactly what you've achieved. I also loved the humor that you portrayed in your article. It really helps to get a true feel for the message that you're relaying to readers by being able to incorporate your personality! Lee Caggiano's class has truly opened my eyes and expanded my interests to the world of stuttering (a field that I previously knew very little about), and I can only hope that as a future Speech Pathologist, I will be able to make a meaningful contribution to the clients that I help. What you've done is so important, and it's so touching to see how many lives you've changed. Thank you for your wonderful story! Sincerely, Lauren LeRea, graduate student - NYU
