Hi Kristen, ..... Thanks for your kind words. They mean a lot to me. ..... Yes indeed, stuttering/fluency therapy is one of the most complicated and challenging professions you can enter. I tell the SLP students I speak with that if you want an EASY job, become a rocket scientist. There are only three laws that govern everything there. (Thank you Sir Isaac Newton.) But if you want to TOUGH job, become an SLP. You face different problems there every day. And what works great for one client doesn't work worth a flip for another one. It almost galls me to say it, but I think that's one of the reasons that there are more female SLPs than there are males. Females just handle those myriad, changing complexities inherently better than males! Grrrr... ..... Let me make five suggestions for further explorations into the world of stuttering. 1) Join the National Stuttering Association at http://WeStutter.org 2) Read the material on the Stuttering Home Page (where this ISAD conference is being held) at http://stutteringhomepage.com 3) Visit the Stuttering Foundation of America's website at http://stutteringhelp.com 4) Attend an annual conference of the National Stuttering Association. Go to http://WeStutter.org and click on Annual Conference on the left. Next summer it's gonna be in Atlanta. No party poopers allowed! <grin> 5) Join the Stutt-L listserv. It's the best internet discussion group on stuttering on the web. See http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/kuster/stuttlfaq.html for details - or simply drop me an email at russhicks@mail.com. ..... Thanks for taking the time to read my paper, Kristen. I wish you the very best. And please stay in touch! ..... Russ, my email is russhicks@mail.com
