Mr. Hicks, My name is Vera Wilson and I'm currently a graduate student at Wester Carolina University. This semester I'm taking Fluency Disorders course and our our Professor (Dr. Shapiro) let us know about ISAD Conference. I wanted to say thank you for sharing your positive attitude and your beliefs about an issue that is sometimes so difficult to disscuss. No, I don't stutter, but moving from another county, learning new language and making it my own was not the easiest thing to accoplish. However, now that I look back (and still!) I see that most of my survival through "tough" times was/is a simple action of standing up and facing my fear of speaking, interaction and vocing of my ideas in front of everyone. I guess in all of this I just want to say that there are many things that could present us with "hurdles" in our lives and that the best advice for these that I have heard so far, I read in your paper today: "By simply standing up and facing your own fears you can be a role model to so many people who desperately need help facing their own demons." Thank you! Vera Wilson
