Hi Vera, ..... Thanks for your kind words. They mean a lot to me. ..... I cannot imagine the challenges of moving from one culture and one language into a completely different world with a different culture and a different language. That was one of the amazing things I encountered when that little Chinese girl came to ME for help in helping her establish a Toastmaster club for members of the Chinese community! I'm NOT Chinese! What help could I possibly be? Well, it turns out, much to my amazement, that I COULD be of help simply by understanding some of the difficulties they have with communication. And I became some sort of a role model - again to my amazement - and it grew and grew from there. Today, half the Asian community here in North Texas looks up to ME as a role model! I continue to be astonished. But a fact is a fact, and that's just the way it is. As my friend said, "You never know who you touch." As we say here in Texas, "Boy howdy!" (English translation, "That's absolutely correct!") ..... As a future SLP, you'll have more opportunities to affect other people's lives than you can possibly imagine. The bad news is that you probably won't even hear about 99% of them. But the good news is that the 1% that you DO hear back from will make everything you do all worthwhile! ..... I wish you the best, Vera. I hope our paths cross some day. ..... Russ, my email is russhicks@mail.com
