During undergrad I took a 1 credit hour fluency class and I am now taking a required fluency class for graduate credit. I think the classes have been wonderful in helping know how to more appropriately interact with clients who have a fluency disorder but I don't feel as though I know much about how to do therapy with them. Although clients with fluency disorders don't typically show up on a school caseload (I'm currently at a school placement)I feel that it is still very important to be knowledgeable about and feel comfortable treating these clients. I think that because we still don't what causes people to stutter or how to remediate it, that we should be even MORE prepared and educated about it.
