Hi Tina, Thanks for your feedback and questions. I am very pleased that the article has led to you exploring the Lidcombe Program and telehealth further! There are relatively few studies reported in the literature of the use of telehealth in SLP. Hill & Theodorus (2003) reported a literature review in which 13 telehealth studies were identified. There have been very few studies of the telehealth management of stuttering, and so the evidence is therefore limited at this stage. You may wish to read the studies by Kully (2000)and by Sicotte, Lehoux, Fortier-Blanc, & LeBlanc (2003)which are cited in the article. Re. treatment time comparison between standard delivery of the Lidcombe Program and telehealth delivery: In the recent trial (Lewis, Packman, Onslow, Jones & Simpson, 2006), the experimental group children required a mean of 49 telephone consultations over a mean period of 62.9 weeks to reach the criteria for completion of Stage 1 (that is, stuttering at or below 1%SS, and parental severity ratings averaging 1 for a minimum of 3 weeks). A recent prospective study of standard Lidcombe Program delivery by Rousseau, Packman, Onslow, Harrison & Jones (2006), reported a mean of 17.9 clinic visits over a mean period of 26.9 weeks to reach the same criteria. Clinic based delivery of the Lidcombe Program therefore remains the best practice option, with telehealth offering an efficacious alternative for isolated preschool stuttering children and their families. Thanks again for your interest & questions. I hope this information is useful. I will include the references I mentioned below. Chris Hill, A.J., & Theodorus, D.G. (2002).
