Thanks Ashley for your question. As to why stuttering is so prevalent in Africa, I cannot say why. May be this could be a topic of some research!!!!!!!, but I know that there are certain tribes in west and central Africa having several individuals who stutters. Stuttering in some families in these tribes seems to be transimitted genetically giving us the strong belief that heriditary factors could be a cause of stuttering in these families. As to how stuttering is viewed by other people in Africa, I may just invite you to read some of the papers that have been presented by some other people from other parts of Africa at this year’s online conference. If you look at some ISAD past conferences you will equally see papers from Africa that carry views on how stuttering is viewed in some African countries. I happen to have collected data from Douala Cameroon as part of an International project aimed at sampling how stuttering is viewed in some parts of the world. The results indicated that that there is a lot of stigma attached to stuttering in Cameroon. If you are interested to have the results of that study which reflects the views of people from Cameroon( which is just a part of africa,) you can contact me vai email as per this address lujotar@yahoo.com
