I'm not sure what you mean when you ask how the children respond. Do you mean how they react to me? I am very careful to model unconditional listening. It is extremely rewarding to convert a reactive parent into a proactive one. You feel like you help change a relationship forever. And, it is metaphorical because they will respond to academics and other issues better.
