I have a six year old child that has stuttered for several years. He also has a few articulation issues and a language based learning disability. In the past, I have never brought attention to when he stuttered. Since the stuttering became a little worse this past year, I enrolled in a research program at a local college. There I have been urged to address the stuttering because we are not supposed to "give him stuttering practice." After being a part of the program for six months, I have noticed the stuttering becoming worse. I have come to the conclusion that it may be best to opt out of the research. I was instructed that any correction should be done in a kind and loving way, but is there any research to back up that this is helpful? And what do I do to correct the damage from the last six months? Thank you.
