Dr. Reitzes, Language is powerful and how we use is even more so. I appreciated your comparison with Dr. Van Riper's cancellation in restating what the client says using positive language. If a client comes back with, "So what is so good about stuttering?" It may be an opportunity to discuss the client's negative perspective and get at feelings. In discussing how stuttering is "bad" it may be that discussion that targets specific goals which would be most pertinent to address at the time. I believe in exploring what the client "said" in the message and in reframing. Thanks so much for the article.
