Thanks for the great discussion on this issue in stuttering therapy! I think that using positive language in therapy regarding any communication disorder or fluency disorder is essential to helping build up acceptance and understanding. I often have a hard time when writing about individual who stutter, because I do not want to be offensive in the way I word it: I found it interesting to see the different feelings behind various ways of addressing PWS. Would it be appropriate to ask a parent or older client whether they would rather you use the term stutterer or person who stutters in reports and such? Or is it better to take cues from how the client or parent addresses the topic when discussing themselves or their child? Thanks again!
