Cara, thanks for the question. You actually do a good job of answering the question too! You ask, “why [would] referring to oneself as having a fluency problem would be considered a form of denial [?].” As you suggest, a person who stutters might be more willing to work on a problem once he or she admits or accepts that a stuttering problem exists.
