Melissa, you ask, “Does changing your own language into positive really help people who stutter or help change other people's view on stuttering?” Well, it sure doesn’t hurt! Adults, teens, and even some children I work with report feeling better about stuttering and themselves as a result of positive language. And frankly, at this point, I cannot imagine at using negative language as a professional. I just do not see the point in suggesting to our clients that they are “bad”, “terrible”, or “awful” in some way.
