Faith, thanks for writing and sharing about your sister. One way I have shared Dear Abby letters with educators is by including them on a school bulletin board devoted to stuttering. This is a form of “advertising” stuttering. Teachers and students have found Dear Abby letters and my students’ written responses to be very interesting and have often stopped my students and me in the hallway to talk about them. I also have worked with my students to include Dear Abby letters and responses in school newsletters or newspapers. My students have also gone back to class and have displayed speech class work, such as Dear Abby letters, in the classroom for all to see.
