Hi Tina: I agree with you that raising awareness on this issue is a difficult task. I think, perhaps, that the only way to raise awareness is by small steps. Some possible ways are: 1. Contacting the media and having public interest stories broadcast/published on stuttering and employment. 2. Perhaps the National Stuttering Foundation or local organizations could create a phamplet that talks about stuttering and the issues/discrimination it can cause in the work place. 3. I think that SLPs need to constantly enourage people who stutter to pursue their career goals. It is a fact that people who stutter can perform at any job. These are small steps, but they create an opening... Hope this thoughts help. Marshall Rice York University
