I thank you for writing this paper and sharing with us the study results, because I can relate to many things written. My main obstacle as a working adult is not being able to give to the firm as much as I could. Therefore, I keep seeing others climb up, while I always stay at the same level. Because speech is everything. How you make the person in front of you feel. They should not feel uneasy while you're blushing and choking in your stutter - we want them to feel good and comfortable. I cannot be the main "negotiator" with our foreign partners, although I have by far the best knowledge of English in my firm. I can translate their memos, and send them e-mails about litle things, about how to find us, but I feel that I have "reached the ceiling" in my firm. No way that I can get any higher, while for others, as they say "the sky is the limit." This is not me whining, it is a fact. I feel grateful that my boss keeps wanting me there. I always think how he could find a person who can do all that I do, plus SPEAK. Which would be a monumental plus.
