Hello, I am a graduate student at the College of St. Rose and I found your article to be intriguing. The number of people who stutter who report that they would have a different career or job and who have turned down employment opportunities due to stuttering is deeply upsetting. However, it is even more upsetting that people who stutter believe that their employer has not offered them a job promotion due to their stuttering. I am wondering how it was concluded that stuttering was the reason however- was it their own perceptions, or were they told this by their employers? 85.9% of people who stutter claim that stuttering has interferred with their job performance and 74.7% agreed that they would be better at their job if they did not stutter. Therefore, it could be possible that people who stutter are not performing to the best of their abilities due to their stuttering and that is why they are not being offered job promotions. Have you ever considered conducting a study that explored the views of employers on people who stutter, including such factors as job performance, promotion, and appraisals? I think it would be very interesting to compare the views of people who stutter to the views of their employers.
