Hi Sze, Thanks for commenting! You ask:>>”How did your family react to your stuttering during your childhood? You wrote that you were the only one in the family to stutter; were they supportive of you? When you were having difficulties in school, did they intervene? When you decided to change career paths, were they understanding of it?”<< My family has always been supportive. They could not relate much to my stuttering, as stuttering was unknown to them, but they did whatever they could do. During school, yes, when I was in elementary school they did intervene. However, once when I was in middle school, I hated to talk about stuttering. I had a low self-image at that time, which was being fuelled by my constant “failure” at speaking “normally”. It would leave me chagrined. As such, I withdrew into my shell, not wanting to talk about my stuttering, or anything related to it. I did not want to re-play everything again talking about it and bring back unwanted memories. There was an enormous resistance from my end. As such, there wasn't much of an intervention in the later stages. Now, that I have become open about my stuttering, I don't need any intervention from my parents! :-) And yes, they were absolutely supportive when I decided to switch career paths. I've elaborated on this in many of my previous responses – so much I've even forgotten to who all. :-) From top of my head, you might want to read my response to Jeanette Love http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/cahn_mnsu_edu/9sachan/_disc4/00000075.htm All the best with your studies, and your becoming a SLP!
