I am a student studying fluency disorders. We have talked in class about modifying stuttering vs. aiming to be free of stuttering, and how the second approach is very controversial. It seems like an approach parents or those not educated in the field would expect. I liked hearing from a professional's point of view that it is okay to think this way. While it could be idealistic to approach every client who stutters with this attitude, I think it's great to keep an open mind on the subject.
