This is a reasonable question and you seem to have a good handle on how to deal with it, I mean, having an open mind. But also exploring each of those points of view, so that the family and the PSW gain some experience as a speaker and as a listener for each of those circumstances, i.e. speaking Stutter-free and speaking with controlled stuttering. Then they become more capable to make decisions for themselves about what they want to explore relative to changes in themselves, as a PSW, a family member, etc.
