Actually, the idea that we have the freedom and capacity to change our beliefs at any moment and live differently has been known for a very, very long time in human history. There are passages in the Judeo-Christian bible, i.e., in Deuteronomy, "Choose this day . . .;" in Proverbs, "As a man thinketh . . .:" fields of study, i.e., General Semantics; theories of personality, e.g., Buddhist; methods of psychotherapy, e.g., Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, and the message of Viktor Frankl's great book, Man's Search for Meaning, which emphasize the relation of belief to behavior and that changing belief changes behavior. This is the basis of some behavioral re-training referred to as sensitivity training. Well, you get the idea. This is nothing new, but, for some reason, we need to hear this truth over and over until we actually learn it as a species. I'm glad that my short paraphrase of this vital message was meaningful to you. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. Sincerely, Ellen-Marie Silverman
