Dear Anne: Thank you for your comments. You ask whether any research has been done on the influence of meditation and/or yoga on stuttering problems. Well, I reported a case study of my experience with a shenpa practice (a variation of mindfulness meditation) in last year's ISAD Conference; it is entitled, "Shenpa, Stuttering, and Me," and can be accessed through The Stuttering Homepage. The only other research I know of, also case studies, was published in the 70's and reports in brief the experiences of two stuttereres, one severe and one mild, with TM (transcendental meditation). A grad student in the Chicago area, a self-reported meditation, emailed me about six months ago about some research he was planning, but, so far, I have not heard from him regarding the findings of his study. So, there surely is room for more research, with children and adults. Ellen-Marie Silverman
