Dear Greg Snyder, I'd like to take this opportunity and express the great interest for your article. Our research data showed that developmental stuttering has high rate of comorbidity with social phobia (F 40.1 - ISD 10). The people with social phobia may not be able to drink a cup of coffee in the cafe, sign up a check in a bank, play musical instruments in the presence of other people because of the hand tremor, but are very successful in these activities when they are alone in the room or accompanied by friends or relatives. The research conducted in our SRC showed that more than 70 percent of PWS don't have speech problems when they speak aloud or read aloud, while being absolutely alone in the room (when they are sure, that nobody can hear them). About 30 per cent of PWS do not stutter with close relatives and friends.Taking all this into consideration, there are two questions: What is the difference between social phobia signs and the stuttered signs? Is there a difference in the severity of stuttering signs when the PWS is communicating to his relative or friend, and when s/he is communicating to the group of unknown people? Best regards, Ilia Rasskazov
