Ms. Spillers, I was captivated by your article. I've always felt that an integral part of evolving and growing as a person is to identify and face your demons. As you poignantly stated, "When we seek freedom from the circumstances and conditions in life that cause us suffering, we really want relief from the suffering". I think that people, in general, spend a lot of time trying to escape their demomns by changing or avoiding their circumstances. But, the demons are part of us, and you just can't run away from yourself. In stuttering therapy, I can see how this is an important concept, but one that must be realized by the client themselves. Avoidance behaviors are a way of trying to escape the demons, while approaching your stuttering is the equivalent of walking up to the demon and placing yourself in it's mouth. The imagery in your article was great. Thanks.
