Hi Meredith, I think that the entire therapy experience can be an exercise in facing demons one by one, beginning with the least threatening and working through to the most threatening. The stutter more fluently therapy approaches have a lot to offer, especially with the identification and desensitization steps. With those steps, clients face the stuttering, sometimes for the first time, and the demons that are attached. In the long run, though, a person needs a safe and supportive place to do their inner work. Clinicians can provide such a place best by showing unconditional positive regard, acceptance, and non-judgment, those 3 pearls from Carl Rogers.
