Hi Martha Thanks for getting in touch, and for a very interesting question! A good friend once said that he regarded the stutter as being an integral part of me - someone he liked - so he did not see it as a bad thing. Very kind of him, but my line-manager at work took a different view. "Let's face it", he said", "there is nothing at all good about your stutter - remember that". So negative it is, then. And to be honest, I really cannot think of very much that is positive about it. Don't think I'm really scared of stuttering, and am certainly not scared of public speaking. But the stutter does get in the way, and I greatly resent that. I do not feel that the stutter adds anything particularly useful to me, but will never accept that I'm any less of a person for having it. Am extraordinarily upset and annoyed that there are despicable people around who can actually make someone feel suicidal and alone because of a stutter. There is good in everyone who stutters; all are capable of acquiring valuable skills and doing excellent work. Although it is often hard for us to appreciate, a stutter is really just a minor blemish on a beautiful face! Kind regards Tony
