Hi Deborah Thank you for your interest and generous comments. Yes indeed -my therapy commenced with a psychiatrist who asked me if I wanted to kill anyone, and whether I would like to go away to boarding school - this completely freaked me out! Had quite a number of 1:1 speech therapy sessions. Also tried hypnotherapy - the stutter stopped for one week following the first session, but further sessions produced little in the way of improvements. Best experienced was a two week course in the UK, organised by Franklin Brook. This taught breathing and slack syllabic techniques, but the most useful element was a series of exercises where we had to go out into the local town and actually practice stuttering to people (to reduce our fear of doing it). Of course, not so easy to apply these theories in real-life pressure situations. As a teenager, I presented many radio programmes, finding that being in a studio wearing headphones allowed me to speak completely fluently! Kind regards Tony
