Well written and well researched paper by Ken St. Louis. This controversy over whether to put "person" first or to say "stutterer" is a fascinating subject to think about and debate. How should one advise an SLP who may ask the question "how should I address a stutterer?" (I.e. a "person who stutters"; a "person who is living with stuttering"; or a "stutterer"). How is it best to advise a professional that the therapy is the most important issue re. the client; not trying to make sure that the client's feelings are not offended? (as it has been found that some clinicians may be more afraid of offending the client with an "insenstive" remark rather than being more concerned with actually getting the appropriate therapy done).
