Hi Ross, It's good to hear from you! You ask an important question, one that is similar to a few asked by some students training to be SLPs. In an earlier reply, I included a paragraph that we deleted from the paper in the interest of shortening it. I am worried by just the situation you describe, i.e., being "sensitive" instead of being an effective clinician. The two are obviously not mutually exclusive. All clinicians should be sensitive. And in my experience, they almost always are. Yet, by muddying the water with labels, an otherwise sensistive, effective clinician could be viewed--by a clincian, supervisor, or client who is "up on" the most recent politically correct terminology--as insensitive. If I am reading between the lines correctly in your comment, I agree that this can trivialize and/or detract from effective therapy. Ken
