Hi Maggie, Good points. Well, first off... Get your degree before you challenge your professor or clinical supervisor too much! Second, let me ask you a question. Were you shocked because your professors' occasional "slip" into direct labeling suggested that they were being pejorative or because they apparently did not "know/follow the rules?" If the latter, you can be pretty sure this is simply a PC issue. If the former, then Peter Reitzes and others must be right; "stutterer" has become for you a "bad word" like "retard," "idiot," "moron," etc. I, for one, hope we have not crossed that threshold.
