Dear Tara, Thanks for the post. I hope the conference has lessened some of the fear you have of working with stutterers. You should read an article by Mike Wingate in the Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders in 1971 called "The Fear of Stuttering." In it, he talks about how and why clinicians fear stuttering. For some reason, stuttering evokes fear in new clinicians, probably because they fear at some level that they might make the problem worse. I have speculated about other reasons as well, but this is probably way off the topic of person-first terminology. Ken
