I am in my second year of Speech Therapy classes and we have been taught to use people- first labeling. I agreed with a comment made by someone in the article, they thought it was best to ask someone which form of labeling they prefer. I don't feel that there is any harm in asking someone what they want to be called. I don't think that many people would find it rude, it would be like asking their name (not that you would just call them the label). I would have no problem having someone ask me if I preferred to be called a 'stutterer' or a 'PWS'.
