Hi Michael, you may remember me,( although probably not, I am not that memorable! but maybe you remember my daughter who performed with Our Time Theatre Company at the IFA gala dinner in Trinity College, Dublin, she wore green!) we met very briefly when you addressed an Irish Stammering Association meeting during the World Fluency congress in Dublin. Thanks for this article, you are right, without the guidance and support of speech therapists I would not have been able to make the progress I have made in making changes in my life and gaining an acceptance of my stammer. I kind of knew I wanted to make changes but the SLT's were perceptive enough to know when and how to encourage me and when to stop me opting out, trust is a huge part of that and knowing they were there when the inevitable relapse happened was really important. The point for me is that the stutterer needs to want to make the change but the therapist can provide a path to help make those changes easier. Best regards veronica
