I thought your article was extremely meaningful, and was impressed by the fact that you are a therapist who deals with stuttering on a personal level. I believe that addressing the clients feelings and emotions is just as pertinent as addressing their disfluencies. I feel you must address the “whole person” to make treatment successful and meaningful to the client. I have always questioned how well a client could connect with a clinician who didn’t have the same background as they have had, with stuttering. So, how well can we truly “understand” their thoughts, fears, and emotions about stuttering without actually experiencing them ourselves? Also, how can we attempt to understand and address their emotional needs to make therapy a success?
