Nicole, thank you for sharing your thoughts and question. Its a joint adventure...therapy. The role of the slp is to guide and when possible to make appropriate intervention. For the client is responsible to "work" on creating a new self. The new self might mean fluent speech. However, I don't think thats the total answer. Communication skills in a trusted relationship between slp and client is the key. The therapist and client set mutual goals. good luck in your graduate studies. I hope you decide to become a slp specializing in stuttering. The field needs you. Michael
