Hi Charlie! Thanks for the comments and observations (my general gardening preference is chicken manure). You come to the fertilizer issue from an angle I had not considered: If I were to speak about fertilizer it would have noted different kinds of fertilizers for different purposes (bone meal, blood meal, ash, etc...) changing the qualities of the growing medium and thus the plant (read: outcome?). Often you don't want too much of ANY fertilizer: but adding does depend on existing conditions and plant needs. Anyway, thanks for the insights and commentaries...they were fun. Michael
