Alexis, Nice questions! Actually, there are advantages and disadvantages to each so I would start with whatever the child is comfortable with and whatever is rationally "doable". I my practice I have used close friends as well as other kids with other speech problems that were not friends: So the CWS could remind the artic kid about a speech strategy in the real world as the artic kid reminds the CWS about a strategy. The real hard part is setting up a system so the kids actually DO it (helping each other with speech in non-therapy situations). Parents are often helpful because they have a vested interest. The idea of rotation is great for a number of reasons: education of others, generalization, desensitization, etc... Thanks for your comments. Michael Would you recommend the speech buddy be someone that the child is more familiar with, a closer friend let's say, in order to reduce anxiety as opposed to someone less familiar to him/her? Or would you rotate the speech buddy?
