Jim - great article! You've done a wonderful job of sharing your gift of poetry with the stuttering community. In this medium of communication, you have to choose your words very carefully, and you've done that very well. In a few words, you've managed to capture many of the feelings and episodes I've experienced in my stuttering career. I, too, write a fair amount. I also use the written word to communicate what I want to say. While it's a great way to be fluent, sometimes I wonder if we stutterers use the written word as merely an avoidance mechanism. The written word sometimes pales in comparison to the spoken word. At times when I feel this way, my writing is not a cause for celebration. Rather, it is a cause for depression - that I've settled for second best. What are your thoughts on this matter of writing as avoidance?
