Gail, I loved the analogy you used, comparing the hippo to stuttering. It gives a "visual" to the feelings children have regarding their dysfluent speech. (i.e. It's a HUGE problem). It also gives the child and clinician an opportunity to talk about the fears, the hopes and yes, the humor that surounds stuttering.
