Using the telephone as always been one of the greatest fears of a person who stutters. The use of new technology has everyone communicating through the modes of: writing (emails) and moble phones. It is my opinion, this creates an increased amount of anxiety and stress on adult stutterers. What about adolescents? When at this stage of their loves the telephone is the highlight of ther growing up? Rejection would surly tera down ther self-esteem and confidence. What is you opinion on beginining as therapist building a client's self confidence and tackling those fears in functional tasks e.g., use of the telephone) in the begining stages to treatment not during "desensitisation". My question is how do we assist adolescents overcome this fear of using the telephone in a public school setting? When: the therapist does not have phones in theire office or therapy settings to use; the students are not allowed to bring cells phones on campus; and the students are not allowed to use the office phones? Role playing neds to be placed in into pratice in real situations?
