Natalie,

My motivation came both from philosophers, Epictetus and Bertrand Russell, psychologist Albert Ellis, and other people in every day situations who overcame other hurdles and handicaps.

For example, the prisoners of war in Viet Nam, such as McClain and Perot running mate whose name escapes me.

But, perhaps, my biggest motivation came from observing people all around me. Especially those who had given up at the slightest hardship. Those who love to whine, whimper, wail, and waste their brains with drugs and alcohol.:-) People who are perfectly able to succeed in life but find more enjoyment in snivelling :-).

I asked myself do I really want to spoil the only chance to enjoy this life on this earth. Granted there will be hard times, but why make them harder by complaining and trying to find something or somebody to blame? (This reminds me of the Freudian psychoanalysis, a totally narcistic endeavor.)

In summary, any person who chooses reason over uncontrolled emotionality, can motivate himself to work toward a solution, imperfect as it may be. Do you know that most people who have succeeded at anything have failed many times before they succeeded?

p.s. Suggestions: Never give up! Try to make the best out of any situation you end up into. And learn from other people's mistakes. You will not live long enough to make all of the mistakes yourself. :-)
