Hi Carrie, Yes I have used this approach on several clients with varying degrees of success. What we need to do, however, are controlled studies of progress/outcome. In my clinical observations, this approach has been beneficial because (1) it provides clinicians with a theory from which to alter/modify treatment yet not loose site of the goals of therapy, and (2) this approach requires the client to do repetitive practice. I don;t think make use of drill work enough which may be why other treatments (including others that we have applied) rarely end up with the fluent speech being automatic for the speaker, Of course, this appraoch has to be blended with other aspects (e.g., attitudes, feelings, coping skills) t0 treat the *person* who stutters (rather than treating the stuttering by itself).
