As a Kent State University graduate student in Dr. Caruso's fluency class, I have found the interactive multimedia software very helpful in learning about types of stutterings and what they sound like. Having this experience will help greatly when in a clinical setting. Although the interactive multimedia software is a beneficial, it would still be a good idea to be required to acquire clinical clock hours in fluency. The best way to learn about fluency, get experience, and build clinician confidence in working with fluency clients would be to have actual clock hours as well as using the multimedia interactive software described in Dr. Caruso's article.
