Jay and Susan-

Thank you for taking the time to put your experiences in print. I am an Educational Speech/Language Pathologist and have worked with a number of “Stutterers” over the past 20 years. Susan- You must have done a wonderful job of raising Jay. It sounds like he has turned out to be an exceptional young man. Jay- Thank you for being such a wonderful role model to younger children and thank you for taking the time to help others.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to have three students on my caseload that were having difficulty with fluency. One was in 2nd grade, one was in 4th and the other was in 5th. I have always had language groups for students that are language delayed, so I thought I would start a “fluency group”. These students did not know each other and had never met before. We met the first time for only 30 minutes. We talked about a variety of different issues dealing with their speech. As one student was explaining what was difficult for him, the others were both nodding their head in agreement. These kids bonded instantly. Watching these kids become friends and help each other out has been one of the greatest experiences of my professional life.

Could you please give me some information on the next convention for the National Stuttering Association. It sounds like a wonderful experience. Even though these students are now in the middle school and I no longer work with them, I would like to give them this information.

Thanks again, Bryan

P.S. Jay - Glad to see you play golf. I try, but just can’t seem to break par. Who knows, maybe some day I will. FORE!!!
