Just as time marches on, so has speech therapy. With the advent of new ideas, theories and the influx of new people, speech therapy has been changed.
While it still may not help some people (a person has to want help to be able to accept it), it can help many others.
All four of my student clinicians gave me enormous amounts of support, both emotional and speech wise. It was the first time that I ever had any type of support like that from someone not in my immediate family. While it felt rather strange, it still helped me knowing that they were there. All four will make excellent SLP's once they finish school, because they do care about their clients and aren't afraid to show it.
