Hi Judy The information about Thomas Brown was passed on to me by my brother who is 16 years my senior. In my earlier years my brother was my voice and I was his eyes. My grandparents had passed on before I came along, so Clarice Brown who had no children of her own and treated me like a grandchild. Talking directly to me about my or anyone elses speech would have been a taboo subject in my family. Clarice Brown had been a headmistress of a boarding school for young ladies from mainly outback cattle and sheep properties. Regarding our family folk lore, around 1900 there was a family wedding in Melbourne. Being a lengthy trip from here they all stayed over in an acomodation house. During the night Thomas Brown put carbide in every ones chamber pot underneath their beds. Carbide when mixed with water makes acetylene gas, which was used in the early days for lighting. Apparently a big commotion occured and the constabulary were called. The Brown family at that time were rather strict Baptists. O'realy what a terrible fellow to have in your family. Perhaps some of you other stutterer's have some great ideas for letting go our frustrations.

Thanks for a great Conference so far Jim
