Dear Carrie Thanks for your good question - but of course it is one of the most difficult! The reason that is is difficult is because it is hard to define "full recovery". You probably mean "totally fluent" - is that right? We have certainly met adults who say "I used to stutter but I am fine now", but we think our job is to help people gain confidence and a balanced way of managing their personal best level of fluency with the minimum amount of anxiety. This can vary from individual to individual. Many people do seem to find that when they are less anxious or self conscious, the stuttering is much less obvious or worrying. So a "total Cure" is, to us, not a very helpful idea for people who have experienced stuttering for a long time - it is important to be realistic and go for the "good enough" rather than get caught up with ideas about "perfect fluency".
