I thoroughly enjoyed this article and was interested to learn that the authors usually suggest beginning therapy by requiring only single word responses and increasing utterance length from there. About how long, on average, do you suggest working at the single word level? I would be worried that some children may think that this simplistic level of communication is desirable and acceptable or do you not find this to ever be a problem?
