Jeanne,

We certainly recommend both e-mail and telephone as ways to keep the communication alive with family members. Be creative in developing ways to counsel family members and keep them up to date on the child's activities and progress. It is really important for family members to understand that success is measured in many ways, not the least of which is the child's comfort level in speaking situations. Unless they hear this from us, they may think that THE measure of success is a decrease in the frequency of disfluencies.

Good luck in your work with children who stutter. DC
