Dear James, I am a Speech-Language Pathologist in Australia and was fascinated by your story. I wondered if you would comment further on your statement that: "The benefits come gradually over time - and interestingly, over the past 7 or 8 years, since I've been reading almost every day to my young children, my fluency with general speech and with the delivery of work related scripts has increased dramatically." I am assuming that you are referring to reading children's stories. Do you think the reading per se is beneficial, or that reading to an appreciative "audience" is what helps? Also, as an SLP, I feel compelled to ask why you have not sought speech pathology treatment as an adult. Finally, many thanks for the insights your essay has provided. Best wishes: Freida van Staden
